What is a calving jack?

It is a device used to facilitate the extraction of the calf during a difficult birth of the cow. The causes of difficult calving are multiple: the calf is too large, the cow has no or very few contractions, the cow's cervix is too narrow, etc.

Using a calving jack

When it is realized that the cow is having difficulty giving birth on her own, a calving jack is used to assist her. Precautions to take during calving
